Drive Caribou, NS to Cornwall, PE
Just in case you don’t know, it is free to travel to PEI whether it is on the Confederation Bridge or the ferry. When you leave you pay. If you only travel one way on the ferry there are no reservations. It is first come, first serve. We left the campsite by 9 am, drove the 3 km and were told there was a pretty good chance we would make the 9:30 sailing. We made it onJ We were amazed how many vehicles made it on since the ferries aren’t as big as the Vancouver Island ones. The sailing time is about an hour.
Leaving Nova Scotia
PEI is fairly flat in this area with rolling hills and
lots of corn fields. We were set up and
ready to go after lunch. We didn’t want
to go too far so we drove to Port la Joye-Ft Amherst National Historic Site near
Rocky Pt. First European settlers were
the French in the 1720’s. This was an
important port for entry and in the struggle between the French and
British. Four cultures called this
home: Mi’kmag, French, Acadian and
British. This park was recently updated
with sign boards so there is no fee. The
public is free to use the park and read the signs on a self guided tour. (PEI
took about 33% cut in Parks Canada employees)
We just happened to be there when two employees were setting up for a
special weekend event. Just a short
distance away is an old lightstation.
Blockhouse Point Lightstation
After dinner walking around the campsite we spotted this cute, different
trailer. So we approached the owners and
were told it is made in Quebec.
