Drive around Cabot Trail
The viewpoints here are called “Look Off”. Our first stop was the Centre de la Crema an Acadian mask making and hooking rugs. We stopped in Cheticamp to visit the Saint Pierre Church on the water front. The stone church was built in 1892. It had a facelift/painting in 1957 at the same cost as the original cost of building the church. The original 1904 Casavant organ is on display. Before entering the park we were told to stop at the bakery to pick up some goodies for the road. Delicious and smelled so good!
Cape Breton Highlands National Park was the first park in the Atlantic Provinces. Driving along the first few kilometers there
are steep hills over 1100 feet then coming onto a plateau crossing over to the
eastern side. The Skywalk trail would
have been amazing but the rains were starting.
It is a 7.5 km return with a gorgeous view of the Gulf of St.
Lawrence. We did do a shorter Bog walk
on a boardwalk and as we were half way around the rains started and we ran to
the truck it was pouring. Fishing Cove
is a 7 km hike in or a steeper 3 km hike where there was once a fishing village
and now you can tent there once you walk in.

We stopped for lunch at Angie’s Restaurant on the eastern side. Since it was about 3 pm we lucked out and got
the last of the Seafood Chowder, very good and Lobster Sandwich. The eastern coast is very green with gentle rolling hills and some protected beaches. The sun was back and the temperature climbed.
