Terra Nova National Park to Gros Morne National Park
Cool morning and nice driving on the road we covered about a week ago. I meant to get some pictures that I missed the first time but sometimes the road looks different from the other side. We’ve noticed that the smaller communities have theatres and a lot of heritage sites since this province is so old. There are a lot of ponds, brooks and rivers along the way with cute names. Gander has a lake, Gander Lake that is about 50 km long.
Watch for the signs coming into towns, each one has its own special title. Grand Falls is “Perfectly Centered”. Along the road coming into Grand Falls are posts with solar panels that are moose deterrents. We hadn’t seen any wildlife we were beginning to wonder where all the thousands of moose were then Ross saw one. A lot of homes have coloured Adirondack chairs in the front yards with a fireplace or just for sitting, very inviting.
Traveling across the mid section is fairly flat with rolling hills no mountains to speak of just the odd bump. The rains have caught up to us or we caught up to it near Deer Lake. Arrived at Gros Morne just after 2 pm in the fog and with more elevation, just about 1165 feet. We set up camp and checked out the West Brook Fjord boat rides. The KOA people called for us to check availability and booked us on for Thursday morning. Weather report looks good.
Daily Stats:
Today's distance: 509 km
Weather: Overcast high cloud, rain at Deer Lake then fog; High: 21 degrees; Lo: 16 degrees
Wildlife: Moose
Campsite: Norris Point KOA $32/night full service
Texted a friend today just to keep in touch and she didn't respond. She always responded. I was hoping to hear "I'm better and out of hospital". Battling a terrible disease is just so sad.
